Mitakuye Oyasin- Nahko Sings Medicine for All Our Relations
Anything that improves a situation is Good Medicine. The Lakota language is structured to emphasize verbs more than nouns. So Lakota medicine is a way, a movement, a flow- not an object to obtain. May Medicine flow into your life as this song has flown into mine. Thank you, Nahko for making Good Medicine!
You wouldn’t pick up a hammer and knock yourself in the head. Likewise, it is not a good idea to force ‘positive’ thoughts upon yourself in a manic, urgent way. So how do we work with thoughts to improve our lives?
Golden Milk is a marvelous creamy hot beverage that applies the attributes of a healing root called Turmeric. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years in India as a cleansing substance for the body. It is known to be beneficial to the inner organs, the spine and the joints, reducing inflammation.
There are several ways of making Golden Milk. My favorite is from herbalist Julie James who teaches how to use coconut oil to make a paste before adding the water or the almond milk. This coconut oil and turmeric paste can be made in bulk and stored in a ball jar for ‘per-cup’ use.
Here is an EXCELLENT how-to on making gluten free pizza that actually tastes very good! There are a lot of recipes that try to imitate bread and fail. This one doesn’t. It has found a revolutionary new method of food conveyance… cauliflower!
For this recipe you will need a nut bag strainer or cheese cloth to drain all the water from the cauliflower. I did not listen to the directions the first time and did not drain my cauliflower well enough so I ended up making more of a pizza ‘casserole’. But the second time around- I had real slices of pizza in my hands. It was fun and it tastes really good!
There are countless videos on how to make countless things on the wonderful Tube of You… So if you are wanting to learn something, anything- youtube it.
Here is my favorite how-to on home-made flax crackers. From this demo you can learn how to make your own flavored crackers and add your own spice combinations. I personally find putting onions in my crackers makes a strong cracker taste which I don’t like. I leave out the onion and just put fresh onions on top of the cracker when making a sandwich.
You do need a dehydrator for this. And I highly recommend one, along with a slow cooker- for all sorts of healthy food preparations.
Although flaxseed contains all sorts of healthy components, it owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them:
- Omega-3 essential fatty acids, “good” fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
- Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidantqualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
- Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
